Primary Function: A self- starting industry leader with the ambition to grow our Metro-Chicago business within the context of one of the nation’s oldest and most well respected general contractors. This seller-doer will be responsible for business development and the day to day execution of estimating, preconstruction and construction activities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate interiors, and established relationships with key partners in the Metro-Chicago market.


  • Identify, track, pursue and actively engage internal resources to secure new work
  • Identification and recruitment of industry leading talent
  • Guide multiple jobs and multiple job teams operationally in each phase including pre-construction, construction, closeout, and post-construction services
  • Formulate and develop contract terms with clients and communicate to project team
  • Ensure project strategy is clearly defined and communicated
  • Coordinate the estimating effort to ensure involvement with best and most competitive subcontractors for the job
  • Mentor and coach PM's and project team to ensure their skills and capabilities are being developed by establishing annual performance goals for each direct report Develop and maintain client and industry relationships at the appropriate levels reinforcing Gilbane's commitment to continuously address associated needs and interests
  • Promote positive relations by dealing professionally and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors, and continually instilling this philosophy in the project team
  • Communicate effectively with field team members as well as keeping them active in decision-making.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • 10+ years of experience with a commercial general contractor/construction manager
  • Experience in developing and maintaining client and broker relationships in Metro-Chicago
  • Proven ability to motivate, mentor and manage others
  • Ability to achieve and maintain financial control and profit goals for projects
  • Schedule flexibility to participate in key industry events 
  • Excellent communication skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong technical and communication skills are critical
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of Prolog, Microsoft Office (preferred)
