PRIMARY FUNCTION:  As a Design Engineer III you will be expected to work in a design office environment, supporting all types of projects, bid and proposal efforts, cost estimates and general project field construction. You will also be tasked with providing workable design solutions to technical problems by utilizing a cost benefit analysis approach for identifying potential solutions with minimum amount of supervision. You will be directing and supervising a team of Multi discipline Engineers from within the group while collaborating with other project management and field staff on the project team. 

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: The Design Engineer III typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Receive the Clients brief/program, formulate the scope of works, outline and develop the design philosophy.
  • Compile the design level of effort and/or fee for design delivery.
  • Provide best value working design solutions to technical problems.
  • Assist proposal and estimating teams in analysis, scope definition and estimates in response to RFP’s
  • Manage members of the design team to ensure the timely delivery of information, checking the work of other members of staff and providing assistance to their continued learning and development.
  • Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design environment such that designs consider the impact across all relevant disciplines and requirements.
  • Undertake calculations using design software but also by hand as required.
  • Have knowledge of the current building codes and industry standards expected for the principal building materials used in the industry including international work.
  • Provide sufficient information and support to enable technicians to produce detailed design drawings suitable for construction.
  • Have awareness of and develop a working knowledge of 3D Modelling and Building Information Modelling.
  • Produce written reports and specifications for works.
  • Undertake site visits and site surveys.
  • Provide quality assurance at project sites
  • Attend design review meetings and progress meetings and act as the point of contact for the Client.
  • Coordinate the appointment of sub consultants/specialists necessary to complete the design process.
  • Perform the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Design multi-faceted projects
  • Perform specialized material review in support of field teams when needed
  • Answer trade contractor RFI’s related to design issues
  • customer relations

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Accredited degree in relevant discipline, with a minimum of 6 years previous experience in a similar position.
  • Professional Engineering or Design Licensure
  • Experienced in Constructability Reviews of Design and Design Concepts with regards to interdisciplinary coordination between ASMEP design components including; Construction details, Construction means and methods and Construction sequencing, in order to reduce required discipline interference and design changes in the field.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to lead by example, with a strong attention to documentation, detail and accuracy.
  • Competent user of relevant design software packages, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Extensive knowledge of current markets conditions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, whilst ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Horizontal & Vertical construction and design experience is considered advantageous.
  • A proven commitment to continued professional development.
